About and disclaimer
Fishing License Guide is an independent guide to fishing licenses in the United States. Each state's rules are spread across many pages and PDFs. We bring them together in plain English, with a cost calculator, and link every fact to its source.
We are not a state agency
We aren't affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any state fish and wildlife agency or government body. We don't sell licenses. Licenses are sold only by each state, through its own website, phone line and licensed agents. Each state page links to the official shop.
How we check facts
- We use each state agency's own website and regulations first.
- If the official site doesn't show a fact, we may use a reputable secondary source. We name it and mark it "secondary" beside the fact.
- Every month we compare each source page with the version our facts are based on. If none of a section's sources has changed, its "Checked" date moves forward. If a page has changed, a person rechecks the facts before the date is updated.
- Each section of a state page shows the date we last checked it, and the license year the prices are for.
- If we can't confirm something, we leave it out rather than guess.
Disclaimer
This site gives general information only. It isn't legal advice. Rules, prices and limits change, sometimes at short notice, and local waters often have their own rules. The calculator gives an estimate from published prices; the state's own sale is what counts. Always check the official regulations before you fish or keep a fish. You are responsible for holding the right license and following the rules.
We work hard to keep things accurate, but we can't promise that every detail is complete or current, and we accept no liability for any loss arising from using this site.
